Wellbeing
Student wellbeing sits at the heart of everything we do at Manly Vale Public School. We know children learn best when they feel safe, supported, connected and valued, and we work intentionally to create an environment where every student can flourish. Wellbeing is not an add-on at our school, it is woven into daily classroom practice, relationships, routines and school life.
We take a proactive, whole-child approach that supports students socially, emotionally, physically and mentally. Through strong relationships with caring staff, targeted wellbeing programs, inclusive practices and early support when it’s needed, we help children build confidence, resilience and a positive sense of self. Our focus is on nurturing happy, engaged learners who feel a genuine sense of belonging and are ready to thrive both at school and beyond.
How we support student wellbeing
Supporting students’ wellbeing is an active, visible and consistent part of everyday life at Manly Vale Public School. We intentionally build connection, care and support into the rhythm of each school day through:
- caring, approachable staff who build strong relationships with students and families
- daily Meet & Greet at the gate, welcoming students each morning with smiles, bubbles and positive connections
- access to professional support including school counsellors, psychologists and specialist wellbeing staff
- structured wellbeing initiatives such as Peer Support, The Anxiety Project, PAX and restorative practices
- Wellbeing Wagons offering calm spaces, regulation tools and support when students need a break
- regular check-ins to support emotional regulation, friendships and self-confidence
- clear, consistent expectations that promote respect, kindness and positive behaviour
- additional support for students transitioning into school or moving between stages
- collaboration with families to develop health care plans and targeted wellbeing supports when needed
- open, ongoing communication to ensure concerns are addressed early and thoughtfully.
Our approach is proactive, compassionate and grounded in knowing our students well and ensuring every child feels supported, connected and ready to learn.

The Anxiety Project
As a school, we implemented The Anxiety Project to support students in understanding and managing anxiety in practical, age-appropriate ways. Through explicit lessons, shared language and consistent strategies across the school, students learn how to recognise anxious feelings, build coping skills and develop confidence in navigating everyday challenges. This proactive approach helps children feel supported, understood and equipped with tools they can use at school and beyond, strengthening their wellbeing and resilience over time.
Wellbeing Wagon
Our Wellbeing Wagons provide a calm, welcoming space in the playground during lunchtime for students who benefit from quieter play and connection. Supported by our caring SLSO team, the Wagons offer structured games, creative activities and gentle social opportunities where children can relax, build friendships and feel safe. This initiative ensures every student has a place to belong at break times, supporting wellbeing, inclusion and positive connections in a way that feels natural and supportive.
Peer Support
Peer Support plays a vital role in nurturing wellbeing and connection across our school. Through small, mixed-age groups, students build friendships, develop empathy and learn to look out for one another in a safe and supportive setting. The program creates a strong sense of belonging, helping children feel connected beyond their own class and confident knowing there are peers they can turn to for support, both during sessions and in everyday playground life. Guided by caring staff, Peer Support strengthens relationships, leadership and resilience, contributing to a positive and inclusive school culture where every student feels they matter.
Meet and Greet at the Front Gate
Each morning, our staff welcome students at the front gate with smiles, warmth and genuine connection. This simple daily ritual helps every child start the day feeling seen, valued and ready to learn. Whether it’s a quick hello, a shared laugh, or a reassuring check-in, our meet-and-greet builds strong relationships and creates a calm, positive transition into the school day.
PAX - Supporting Positive Behaviour and Wellbeing
PAX is a behaviour approach program we use to support student wellbeing, positive behaviour and self-regulation. It helps children learn how to make positive choices, manage their emotions and work well with others in a calm, consistent and respectful way. Through shared language, simple strategies and clear expectations, PAX creates predictable routines that help students feel safe, confident and ready to learn. By focusing on what we want to see; kindness, cooperation and responsibility, PAX supports a positive school culture where students can thrive both socially and academically.
