School Bands

Manly Vale Public School has an excellent band program.  From Year 3 onwards, students can become part of this outstanding extra-curricular activity run by professional musical teachers and conductors and perform in many different venues.

Junior Band        For Year 3 students.
Students start learning an instrument in Term 4 of Year 2 so that they are ready to begin band at the beginning of Year 3. Information will be distributed to interested families in Term 3 of Year 2 and parents are invited to an information night. Students are then asked to indicate their preferences and given a ‘blow test' before being matched with a suitable instrument.

Any older child may join the band at any stage, and will commence in the Junior Band until assessed to move up to our Senior Band.

Senior Band       For Year 4, 5 & 6 students.

Once every 3 years the Senior band will have the opportunity to be part of a band tour travelling to parts of NSW and performing at schools, retirement homes and other venues.

Each year all band members attend Band Camp in Term 3.

Some of our students have gone on to perform in regional bands like NSSWE (Northern Sydney Symphonic Wind Ensemble).  It is a great grounding and advantage to have been through the school band program if planning to do any of the music programs in high school.

Fees:
Each year $230 per child (Junior Band) and $230 per child (Senior Band) for each of terms 1, 2 & 3 due Week 3 of each of those terms. The fees include our yearly Band Camp cost (there may be a small additional cost for band camp depending on the activities on offer).

Instruments:
We recommend children obtain their own instrument, however the school does hold a very limited offering of instruments that may be hired.  This is an additional cost and there is an also an insurance cost.  Second hand instruments are easy to come by through older siblings, family or on Gumtree or eBay etc.

Tuition:
All students must commit to additional private tutor lessons (generally a half hour weekly lesson).  There is a list of tutors that provide lessons at the school in a variety of instruments.
